I had a post all ready to go last night, but it didn’t save properly so let’s try this again.

We started the day at the hotel in Columbus, NM. Took our time loading up the bikes, grabbed some protein bars, coffee, filled our water bladders and headed 3 miles south to the Mexican border.

From the border we made our way north to Hatchita and just north of there the backroads turned into trails and things started to get fun on our way to Silver City. We had trails through valleys, sides of mountains and even passed through an old mining town from years ago.

As you can see it rained, but the views were amazing. The vastness of the mountains, valleys, desert, and prairie lands was amazing.

Lots and lots of mud and it was fantastic! there was one section where we found ourselves pretty low on gas so a guy pulling a side by side gave us each 1/2 gallon so we could make it to the Datil gas station 30 miles away. Some of those trails were brutal and long and used more gas than we had estimated.

We tried to find a campsite in Datil, NM that had showers but no luck so we rode another 20 miles to Pie Town. Matt found the Pie Town RV Park on his phone so we called ahead. They didn’t have any tent spots so we were told come anyways and setup our tents behind the owner’a house behind a red shipping container. Everything went well until about 11pm. A truck pulled up to the house – guessing the owners and they built a fire, and blasted music until about 4:30 am. This was about 30 yards from the tents. Needless to say we didn’t sleep much. It’s all part of the adventure!

Morning view!! We’re about to work on the bikes, make some coffee, pack up and head north to Grants.

Let’s see what today holds!
