Today was a really great day of riding. We started off by heading back to Grants for gas, water and an air pressure gauge. From there we got on the trails. We had steep rock road mountain passes, single track prairie, long stretches of sand and muddy trails. The highlight of the day was coming out of the mountains back down into the. The views were just amazing in an directions and it appeared we were the only people there. I recorded the entire thing in my GoPro. Once back on the desert floor we eventually stopped by a big rock feature and had lunch and break. There was a 32 mile red section meaning extreme difficulty and we made it through just fine. We stopped in Cuba for gas, food and water. From there we continued on to a camp site. There was a 7 mile red section between Cuba and the camp site. It was absolutely brutal. It was a mountainside ride full of rocks, boulders, massive ruts, steep inclines and nowhere to turn around. The bikes were in 1st gear the entire time and we just went for it. Never seen a trail like that before. I high centered a couple times. We lost a mirror and my bike sustained some battle scars on the right side that had to be fixed with zip ties. Some sections of this hikers probably wouldn’t even go on. Once we finished that section we found an established campsite. The site manager had been up here by himself since May. There were twelve spots and one left so we took it. We walked around the camp last night and there was a group of four people under a tent playing blue grass music. They had their instruments and were playing by lantern light. We stopped and listened for a while. We found some wood and started a small fire. This was the first night we really felt the drop in temperature. It’s 5:32 am and 52 degrees. We have satellite comms, but still no cell service. No idea when I’ll publish these last few posts so I’m saving drafts on my phone and also saving the relive videos. It’s about time to eat, breakdown camp and repack the bikes. Might have to use the grip warmers this morning..
