I woke up for no good reason around 3:30 so I went outside and the night sky was a combination of the deepest black with the brightest stars I’ve probably ever seen. There were so many different details in the sky you just don’t see being near a city. Went back to bed and woke up a few hours later. As we were breaking down camp we had two wild horses come check us out and just stare at us the entire time. We would turn our backs to work on the tents and they would come a little closer. There was a white one and brown one. They did this a few times. When we finally jumped on the bikes and left they ran along aide us for a short time probably 60 yards to our left. I was able to get it all on go pro. It was a long ride out of the desert to gas/civilization. We knew the desert stretch was the longest distance between gas stations (225 miles) the entire trip so we had to fill up our 2 gallon Giant Loop gas bags and strap them to the back. The roads out of there were combination of soft sand, rock, gravel, and old roads. We went by old mining towns from the 1800s with buildings and equipment just left as of operations just stopped one day and everybody left. The highlight of the day was ascending and descending through the Grand Tetons. The magnitude of the entire landscape was just amazing. Due to storms, and the desire for a shower, laundry and perhaps a drink or two we decided to get a room at a lodge in Moran, WY. It was nice to repack our pannier bags, and relax for a few. My laundry was so bad I had to buy a gift shop tee shirt so I had something to wear while doing laundry. We ended the night down in the lodge bar with a couple drinks and I had the Elk meatloaf sandwich.
