Headed Home..

Long story short…. What all the dealers thought was a gasket issue was actually much worse. I had a rock stuck between the swingarm and back of the motor. They didn’t see it until they started pulling parts off. Needless to say the rock punched through the aluminum case and actually was stuck in the case. It’s high enough in the motor where it’s not a constant drip, but still bad.. Nobody up here specializes in aluminum welding so we threw some JB Weld on it and I’ll limp home with a couple of quarts of oil in hand -210 miles on the highway. It was recommended to not proceed on the remote WI and MI UP trails in the event the quick fix failed or more oil volume started to shoot out. Things would really suck then. Going to give insurance a call and see what they can do. The T7 case is $1900.00, with minimum 10 hrs of labor. These guys have never seen such a thing before..

Still a story for the books. Seems like a design flaw to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. One in a million. The timing of the rock flying in at the exact millisecond of swingarm movement / shock compression to pinch then push into the case is a wtf moment no doubt.

  2. Thatโ€™s completely nuts. Iโ€™ve never heard of that happening

  4. Well, yes not fun. The hole is the size of a pin hole – something a sewing needle would leave. It was fixed with RTV the day it happened and should last 1000s of miles. Will add more RTV if need be or have it aluminum welded. I’ve put 300 miles on since. Insurance got a quote from local Yamaha and they wanted $6400 to fix it. Case, swingarm and 15-20 hours labor. Insurance “totaled” it, paid it off and now I have a paid off 2023 bike with 1100 miles on it and around $6k of upgrades. Insurance is odd, but is what it is….. and we wonder why insurance is so much.
