I typed up a general daily schedule for the trip. Click the link above to view it. The town names are hyperlinks and will take you to images of the area. The Excel sheet shows dates, start/end points, elevation, low/high temps, mileage between sections, and a summary of what to expect each day. Of course, one breakdown or bad weather can throw the entire schedule off, so we will see how this goes. My Garmin Zumo XT2 moto navigation unit has built-in motorcycle shops among a 100 other things, so if we break down, we can at least research where we need to go if we are in the middle of nowhere. It will be interesting since we are staying in backcountry Airbnbs and motels the entire time. It’s going to be imperative to keep on schedule. We’ll see some brisk mornings towards the end, but it should be alright.
My bike was dropped off at my friend Matt’s house earlier today. He lives on the route in section 2 in High Rolls, NM. It arrived in one piece, so that’s a plus. We’re using his place as a staging point and skipping section 1.

I fly in on Thursday, Sep 19th and Jeff/Ron are driving in from the Dallas area with their bikes in the back of a truck. We’ll load up luggage on Friday morning, double/triple-check everything, and prepare for a local area check ride. Jeff needs to swap out jets on his carb and it makes sense to do it there since we’ll already be at a moderate elevation. Once all is good, we’ll have a big dinner Friday night and hit the trail early Saturday, September 21. If all goes as planned I’ll be back the following Saturday night. Once we hit Antonito, CO, I’m taking the highway back to High Rolls, NM, and that’s about a 5.5-hour ride. Will get some sleep and fly out the following day.
