I’m tired, so this post will be straight to the point… 😂 Today had the latest start time, most rain, best trail, worst trail, lowest temps, strongest highway wind gusts, longest time on highway, and coolest lunch stop Northwoods bar, and for dinner the sketchiest bar we’ve been to so far. Jeff made us breakfast first thing in the morning, and then, due to thunderstorms, we hung out in the Airbnb for the next few hours and waited for a break in the weather. We didn’t get rolling until around 10:30 a.m. We had to put on our rain gear for the first time, and even though it was cool out, we were sweating like crazy due to all the layers – armor, riding gear, and rain gear over that. Once we got out in the woods on the first trail, getting used to the saturated dirt/sand mixed soil took a little while. This terrain was a first for this trip. The bikes got a little squirrely, but it was no doubt fun. The following section was deep in the forest, with tree canopies above us locking some of the rain and puddles of every size and depth. The traction was excellent, the GoPro footage was accurate, and we had an absolute blast. After this trail system, we rolled through K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base (closed in 95).
We saw a lady walking, so we stopped and asked where we could get lunch. She told us about a biker bar about 4 miles down the road called the Full Throttle Saloon in Gwinn, MI. We went there, had the place to ourselves and had a great lunch. After that we pressed on and ended up on a super slick sand/mud trail that had tons of water puddles, washboard, slick mud and various up/down elevation. We had a bike participate in an unscheduled water dismount, but no other issues and no injuries. It was a difficult trail full of all kinds of different terrain. During this we started to notice a major drop in temperature and it kept dropping through our the day. At this point we decided to look at the maps and find the quickest way to some blacktop and then losgong the night. It was 61 miles by road and a lot further by trail. Due to how late it was getting we decided to hit the highway. All within a few minutes, the rain started coming down and our temp gauges were showing 44 degrees with a wind temp of 39. It made for a cool ride back to the Airbnb.

From here, we settled in, cleaned up, dried out gear, worked on a bike and then went to dinner. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m beat 🥱💤
